Once you add the entry in your host file you need to restart your browser. Did you do that?
At DOS prompt what do you see when you enter: ping linux.server?

I could ping the linux.server, I figured out that some of the services were not started, I ran adstrtal.sh to start the services and I could connect using mozilla, but had problem with Internet explorer 8.
Thanks

Try this to fix your IE8 issue:
The solution is to disable cross site scripting on your browser. This can be done with the following steps.
1. Tools -> Internet Options
2. Security Tab
3. Click Custom Level
4. Scroll to the bottom of the security settings
5. Disable XXS filter
Restart your browser and see if the problem is resolved.
