I have understood the concept of disabling the combinations and dynamic insertion concept but still I have a query if a particular segment lets say department is disabled so can we still used a combination using that disabled segment by using dynamic insertion.Please confirm.

We cannot disable a segment.

Do you mean to say "if a particular segment value in department segment is disabled"?

In short if you disable a segment value, no new transaction could be "entered" using that values e.g. (journal, invoice, po, pr etc). However that value could still be used in internally generated transactions, e.g. when po is created from pr, when invoice is created from po, when journals are generated from invoice. You will even be able to be post a journal with disabled value.

Disabling a value and disabling combination are two different things.

Disabling combination prevents data entry as well as internal generation of transactions.

E.g., If a combination is disabled then a po cannot be automatically created from pr, invoice cannot be created from po etc.

If a segment value is disabled, you cannot do any more data entry manually using this segment value and hence no more new combinations could be created. Whatever combinations already exist, we will keep on working for internally generated transactions as mentioned earlier. When you enable dynamic insertion, this only means new combinations could be created automatically on the fly but the rules are obeyed. The new combinations must obey cross validation rules and segment values must be enabled.
