Hasan - Can we create alpha numberic parent values set eventhough value set were created with numbers (0-9) only? I had to go back to value set HOE Company & Account and unchecked numbers only box and recompiled. But that will not restrict to numbers only for company & account. Can be go back and check numbers only? will that work or it will create an issue? Thanks.

You cannot create alpha numeric values in numbers only value set. (Irrespective of value being parent or detail).
Non-permitted changes to chart of account structure will result in problems.
Permitted COA changes include: Cross Validation, Security enabled, Freezing Rollups, Window prompts, LOV prompts, default values, dynamic insertions.

Thanks for your reply. But, I don't think you understood RaviRatra's question. I think he is trying to point out to you, the following:
If you create, for example, Value Set Account, with a Format Type being CHAR with NUMBER (o-9) ONLY, checked; how would it be possible to create a Parent Value with an Alphanumeric value as AA? He is saying, he experienced a problem in doing so, and was obliged to go back and unchecked NUMBER (o-9) ONLY. Do you think there is cause for concern with the above configuration (CHAR with NUMBER (o-9) ONLY, checked, and trying to create a Parent Value with an Alphanumeric value as AA?
I understand your intervention, in that, changes to Non-permitted to chart of account structure such as Format Type, will result in problems.

Sorry if I misunderstood the question.
That is not a cause of concern as this is a learning environment.
However changes like these are not supported by Oracle once you start using your ledger. In other words can should not make changes to the value set in production environment after you have entered your journals.
